Larry,
That's why (expensive) I don't replace the GP indescriminately I.E. until I know they are bad. But I always put the newest plug in the #1 cylinder per your advice about #1 acting as a sensor. I alwavs thought there was a temperature sensor in the engine that controlled how long the GP dash light stayed on according to the temperature of the engine and the GP relay just turned on the GP for about 40 seconds or until the starter was energized.
