Transmission fluid...

Use a hand pump and just siphon out the excess from the dipstick/filler tube. I found one at Lappens.. a local parts store.

I didn't have one so I used an anti-freeze tester with a squeeze-type pump at the top. It worked though it took forever because the tester could only hold so much.

Just find a tube long enough to reach the pan from the dipstick tube.

Good luck,

You could have it flushed if you want and the filter replaced. I'd just take it to the dealer unless you want to do it yourself, which isn't hard.. I just don't have a place to do it.

The dealer washes and vacuums my car for me too + they clean up the car really well... surprises me.

Don't take it to those instant-ultra-quick-lube places.. they'd probably overfill your tranny and maybe overtighten a bolt or two.. or three...

They replace the filter, pan gasket, fluid, and the copper washer for the drain plug and don't know what other washers there are.

Do it yourself if you have the place to do it. Drain the Torque Converter too...

don't drive it with the trans overfilled. I wouldn't

Holson, thanks for the quick reply! I also think taking it to the dealer for this is a good idea. I do not have a place to do this either, nor do I have the correct tools/experience (obviously). I feel like such an idiot for overfilling it in the first place. The trouble is once you dump it in you cannot check it very soon after because the fluid is still down the dip stick tube.

What does your dealer charge to do this? How long does it take?

Also how long can I drive it overfilled? I do not have siphoning equipment.

I don't know how long you can drive it with the AT overfilled. Mine was and I drove it for a quite a lot of miles... nothing really happened to it probaly not in the short term. I felt really bad though.... im sure I shortened its life.

My dealer charges $189 to do it....

I know.. a lot of money. I took it to my mechanic instead and had him do it. I brought my own ATF (Mobil 1's Syn ATF) and he supplied the AT Filter kit (gasket, etc.)

If I were to do it again I'd take it to the dealer and just use regular ATF.

How far above the max mark is it overfilled after driving for some 10+ mi.? Can you find jacks and possibly drain the fluid out from the bottom?

I took it my mech who did it for free because I've known him for a while.. just took the car in, lifted it, drained some out, put new washer on the plug. voila...

I will check it again when I go out here soon, but I swear it was an inch or 2 over the MAX line... I think for that price I'll just drain it myself. Though how much...

I really don't know how much you have to drain out. Just drain out enough until when you start the car the fluid level's just below min. Drive around a lot (it's cold out), heat the AT up, and check again.

Somebody will hopefully chime in with more experience on this. I just drained out enough and corrected it after that.

Transmission fluid...

I check it and it wasn't even registering on the stick at all. Yes engine running, heated up after driving over 10 miles, and on level ground. So I bought a quart and the guy at the store (stupid me to listen) said put the whole thing in. So now it's waaay overfilled. How hard is it to drain the excess out? Or should I take it in and get it flushed and filter replaced? I have no idea when it was last done. Also, how long can I drive it like this before I get damage to my tranny?

Thanks!

Thanks Holson! I am pretty busy this week so I don't know when I can get under there and drain it... I will ask the transmission shop that's rebuilding the jeep's tranny what they charge to do a flush and filter change!

For what it's worth, I've never felt this car shift this soft... ever.
