Unhappy Fuel leak at hollow bolt above spin on filter -300SD

Having a problem since replacing the spin on fuel filter on my 1980 300SD. Fuel is leaking from around the head of the hollow bolt at the top of the housing for the spin on filter. Visited the local parts department of the MBZ dealer and purchased a new "O" ring and copper washer for the bolt to see it that would stop the leak. No luck! Still have fuel seeping out around the bolt head. Any thoughts about how to stop this leak?

It will stop leaking when you have it tight enough.

I was concerned not to over tighten the bolt. Someone else told me to mark the bolt before removing the old filter and to return the bolt to the same position after replacing the filter. Does it matter if the hole in the bolt ends up at another spot when the bolt is tightened?

nope, not at all. Keep in mind too that it is screwing into the top of the new filter. It ain't like you are tightening it into a cylinder head or something.

Mine did the same thing until I really tightened it down. In fact , surprised me how much torque it took to stop it from leaking.

Talking Success!

I put some muscle into it and it appears so far that the leak has stopped. Thanks for the feedback.
