PE - the Saturn is pulled behind the RV.

I have a friend that pulled a Jeep from the races at Charlotte to Savannah with the Jeep in 3rd gear all the way back. The engine and tranny in the Jeep needed to be replaced when he arrived in Savannah. He said with that 300 turbodiesel Cummins in the RV he could not even tell the Jeep was back there. He ain't the smartest friend I have but he does have quite a bit of $$ so I guess that makes up for it.

Engatwork,

Well to me a tow vehicle does the towing wheras a towed vehicle is..... well, towed behind something.

Like a tow truck, tows other vehicles. A towed truck would be in the process of being towed (pulled).

I think I understand now.

It was a manual tranny. I initially wondered why it ruined the engine because the oil pump would have been turning and keeping the engine lubed but it seems that at 80 mph in 3rd gear it kept it past the "redline" for a couple/few hundred miles.

Kelly,

Then the motor home is the tow vehicle and the Saturn is the towed vehicle.

You said the Saturn was the tow vehicle which to me means it tows something.
