actually I have back up hose. Originally I used a copper water hose repair pipe and double hose clamps on each end to bypass the oil cooler that sprung a leak. I kept this hose cause it held just fine as a back up so it should be just fine for an emergency.

Will I have tools??.... WILL I HAVE TOOLS?? heheh.... I'll have my whole friggen garage on this trip (which isnt really that much) cause I'm moving and I'll be driving the MB beast so I'll literally have my whole garages contents with me. Which of course will mean that what I need ifffff I break down will the one thing burried deeepest in the stack of stuff.

Sorry for digging up this old post, I just had been feeling like an idiot about what happened to my newly replaced oil cooler line and I thought others should be aware of the situtaion here that can lead to diasaster.

I guess best thing is to check for weeping...

and when the 2nd car sprung the major leak, the oil pressure went to zero and we got the got off over to the shoulder in time...
Then, a simple hose clamp (we had a family member bring in another car along with some oil)...fixed the problem long enough to get to a dealer. So, a hose clamp is essential to have along with tools.

make sure you keep an eye on those gauges for any potential disaster.

Stangely enough, all mine have always failed at the flair piece where the metal connects to the rubber...is this the case with most of them???

Wish they'd design a metal or flex copper line of some kind...seems like a weak point in an otherwise well built car.
