The MB wiring is of a size (1.5mm,~14ga.) that is more than sufficient, by a factor of 3-4, to carry the current of even 100W H4s.
By using a relay, however, the resistance of both the dimmer & headlight switches is eliminated. The voltage at the lights will increase.
OK. Thanks.
On older water-cooled VWs that were not fitted with headlight relays the issue was that all headlight voltage ran directly through the headlight switch, which eventually melted down and failed.
I am supposing the MB headlight switches are more robust and therefore able to handle the voltage load.

@martureo

Oh Sh..T! I ordered these lamps from capitol Toyota in San Jose. They had them. I just got them and they look amazing. They were $16 + $15 shipping!

Un freaking believable! They’re really nice. You get relays, cables, a big bag of high quality cable ties. They are losing money on this. It is some kind of an update kit for FJ drivers. I don’t think they intended us to be grabbing these.

H4 bulbs alone cost $39.99 at Autozone. This is some kind of crazy deal. Somebody is losing on this. So what if they are flat on the front. They’re cheap and high quality JDM parts.

Thank you for posting. I’m going to run out and install them. Sun is going down!

ETA-ok, tried them out. They are definitely brighter than the old sealed beams that came with the car. The sealed beams were Sylvania and quite dim. I could barely tell they were on. Mostly they were there for other people to see me. These H4s are significantly brighter but you know how it is with lighting upgrades you get a boost up and you want more .

Thumbs up Nice Upgrade

FWIW ;

I have had several W123 headlight switches melt down and fail as I was driving along......

Headlight relays are always a good idea when installing higher out put bulbs .

I'll plan to install the relay harness.
