Take a moment to make estimated cost.
A Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow 2, rebuilt engine from Crewe, cost $25,000.00 USD + shipping.
I am not going to be frightened by numbers.
A general cost range would help, $7,000.00 USD, $15,000.00 USD, $35,000.00 USD ???

The engine should not cost you more that US$3000 if you go for the Euro-I version, now all I have to find out is how much would shipping cost to US for a 290kg engine. If you have some shipping sources at your end, please check them out too.

Hello,
I will be checking on shipping from India to Malaysia, just that right now I am very busy chasing my own tail, instead of doing useful stuff like working on my cars
If it is not too much to ask, can you post some pictures of the right(drivers' side) of the engine in your Gurkha as I am concern about exhaust/turbo clearance in the W115 chassis.
Have a good week.

It is quite frustrating, this engine gives new life to the 240D and combine that with 5 speed, you have a super reliable and fuel efficient mode of transportation.

Hello,
Thanks for the pix, looks like it can be squeezed into a RHD W115 chassis with insulation/heat shield for the brake m/c and lines. Exhaust downpipe will be a problem, this looks like a *rear exit* pipe, all RHD W115s having the downpipes swept forward.
Need to find out the customs/shipping stuff........
Have a good week.

Why not take a trip down here, tickets are dirt cheap from Malaysia to India and you can be my guest while you are here, would be a nice experience for you as well. You can also get the intercooled turbo version of this engine as well which has slightly different plumbing.

Hello,
That would be very nice, my only visit to India was 1996(to Jammu-Kashmir) and I have always wanted to tour India and drive on the Karakoram highway, though I think that is only accesible from Pakistan.
It may happen end of this year. I will keep you informed.
Sounds like an engine swap may turn into an international incident."Sorry Sir, it's only a Mercedes turbo-diesel engine for my old car, not a powerplant for a submarine"(though the RCN could have used one a few days back, hahaha!).
BTW, which city are you located in?
Have a good week.

Hi,

Karakoram pass would be some adventure but Leh is way better being the highest point on earth, I live in Himachal Pradesh which is the entrance to Leh and Ladakh, you can mail me at my address for future correspondence as this would be getting way too OT.

Kyle, I know the place you are referring to. Do they do work on MBz diesels?

Any additional modifications needed, or is this a straight engine swap and go?
Will this fry the OEM transmission?

Good point if you can get 10 or more people to share a 20 foot sea container to a port in the USA shipping would be far cheaper.

Assuming that many engines could be procured.
