Crank Position Sensor
Hi folks, just throwing this out in the hopes of some help. I'll post this in the ML section too.
Anyway, the MIL light came on on the wife's 2012 ML-350 Bluetec with the OM642 engine. The code (P0336) called out the crank position sensor. The car starts and runs fine, so it may have just been a hiccup, but just in case I would like to fine the sensor in case it needs replacing. Google searches for over an hour revealed nothing helpful. Has anyone ever replaced the CRANK not Cam position sensor on an OM642, or knows on a DIY or video to help? Many thanks!

If it is like most other MBs it is on drivers side on very back end of block against in about the 930 to 10 o'clock position looking at the engine from the back. I'll change them as a preventive measure by no later than around 200k miles.
Typically symptoms of a bad crank sensor is engine shuts off after a while up to temp and then when it cools off it will start/run again and cycle repeats.

Thank you.
Car ran fine all day today, no codes, no problems.....Talking to my wife it turns out she "forgot" to glow it before she started it the other day. She said it ran rough for a few seconds, then was fine but the Check Engine light was on. I think when it ran rough it got a wonky signal from the crank sensor and tripped the light. We shall see, but thank you for the info!
