Exhaust options?
My w140 has some aftermarket flowmaster type exhaust on it. It isn’t seen, isn’t loud, maybe is a bit more boomy than I’d expect….
But it’s also getting pretty rusty. The exhaust system is about 50/50 patchwork and OE parts. So I’m thinking that it may be worth it to look into options for the muffler. Apparently the part is the same as the s320 muffler. There are more of them, right?!? No luck. Ive seen one or two mufflers on eBay, used, for >$150 plus shipping. I know at least 10 years ago it was possible to get entire w123 exhaust systems. I bought and replaced a down pipe from a 123 once. Ive had good luck with the exhaust systems otherwise…. What options that are reasonable exist? Any dual outlet, single inlet OE style mufflers from anyone anymore? Not at Pelican it seems…. Options?

I'm looking for a good downpipe for my 83 W123. I'll keep a watch on this thread. Did you try peachparts? That's where I've been getting parts.

I’m looking for a w140 though, not a w123.

I'm listening since my daughter drove our 1984 300D home with the pipe out of the muffler dragging and the rear pipe w/ resonator gone. The cops stopped her halfway home and were nice enough to zip-tie the muffler up so it didn't drag to shower sparks which I'm sure were visible at night and gave many 911 calls. Indeed, she saw them and phoned me while driving screaming, but wouldn't pull over to check. Fortunately, I had saved the exhaust from the 1983 I had recently stripped so a quick bolt-on fix, but worried where I would source such again. In CA, so the junkyard 300D's have solid exhausts but those cars are becoming rare.
I replaced the rubber exhaust hangers and wrapped them with nylon cord to help prevent them popping loose. I also added metal loop below to catch the pipe if it came loose again. Strange that M-B didn't design muffler hangers there and rely only on support at the lower downpipe and at the resonator. BTW, I noticed some clay atop the muffler, but daughter swears she didn't fall asleep or stare at her phone to run off the road.
