1977 240d with older engine? need help

I have a 1977 240d with an automatic that was given to me.
I've replaced the injectors with some good ones from mercedes source.
runs well. average blowby.
when I can post up some pics, ignore the intake, the correct one was long gone.
the ac idle pulley was missing, so I bought one with the bolt, but I dont see where to put it.
I think it has an older engine, 76 or 75.
it has a york type ac compressor mounted high left.

probably needs a valve adjustment and oil change.

I need to figure out where to install the idler pulley
can someone post pics of the location or diagram?
is there a swivle bracket that i am missing?

When I first got it, it would blow black smoke and run rough, found a cracked vacuum tube going to the pneumatic IP, replaced that. runs much nicer.

Thumbs up FREE 240D

The valve adjust comes first .

An important question : what are you using for a fan ? .

A 240D engine from '74-'76 would be a OM616.916, and indeed it looks like that's what you have there. And yeah, when there's lack of vacuum signal going to the IP you get way too much fuel injected. Busted diaphragm does the same thing.

As for the idler pulley, it does mount to the compressor bracket on a swivel arm. I have the AC compressor and bracket out of my car. Here's a shot of the idler on its swivel, seen from the rear and upside down:

If viewing this in the car the idler pulley mounts almost straight down from the compressor, on a lower corner of the compressor bracket.

Hope this helps.

yeah, waiting for the damn rain to stop and warmer weather to do the valve adjustment.

I have a 16" electric fan for the radiator.
original fan was broken.

I think you could broaden your search beyond just 240Ds. My 220D from years ago had the same gorilla AC compressor bracket and most likely the same idler swivel setup. Seems like I've seen different versions of the gorilla AC compressor bracket in some gasser models from the same time period as well.

EDIT: Someone like this might have a loose swivel (note the compatibility list, includes 123s):

I was wrong about the orientation of the AC compressor bracket when mounted to the engine; had it 90 degrees off. When in the car the swivel is up top, easy to get to.

so, on that engine, how do I move the power steering pump to change the belt and add the belt for the AC?

It's been a while since I made that adjustment myself. Looks like there are 3 bolts that hold the pump to its bracket, and I think they all run in slots, not like the usual pivot and slot setup. Maybe to maintain the pump's verticle orientation? Anyway, you'll need to loosen up those bolts and then slide the pump in to allow the belt to come off. This assumes you've got the same setup.

I looked at my car and see two bolts going through from the front, and a smaller one in the rear.
