I would never add grease to cover up noticeable wear. Loss of steering on a car can be far worse than loss of brakes. Joint still tests tight but noisy I see no issue with the addition of grease.

It becomes ever more an issue to periodically check for wear. As some aftermarket parts are not even close to the original parts durability.

You are probably right about the wheel bearing grease. It seems the lubricant would need to at least have grease like qualities in order to remain in place. Just curious, what type lubricant do you use?

Ordinary grease or heavy oil.

As a temporary "fix" it will work. I have done it 3,000 miles and 2 weeks from home when one of my ball joints began to squeak incessantly driving me close to crazy. I purchased the needle at Harbor Freight and jiffy lube shot the grease for free. They took sympathy on my ears. Definitely a very temporary patch.

I understand that this is a temporary fix. Since I am planning a complete and total brake job and total front end overall in the next few weeks, it shouldn't be a problem.

FWIW, I have a tie rod off a W115 with grease nipples on one of my W123s

Post Suspension Grease

Wheel bearing grease is wrong ~ you want / need long fiber grease for ball joints, tie rods and so on .

White Lithium based is good here .

It's not too hard to worn the spiral spring off the bottom of the boot, raise it up and inject grease, the problem comes trying to get that dang spiral wire spring back into place .
