Whistling noise

hi guys

Yesterday, my 1985 300SD started with a whistling noise evertime I accelerate, at idle its o.k. Sounds like its coming from the tubo area. I checked and noticed that the hose clamp for the hose running from the air filter housing to the turbo was loose at the turbo end. I thighened it up, but I'm still hearing the noise, any ideas what this could be.

Also, my condenser is not coming on, I know its working cause I hooked it up directly to the battery and it worked. Could it be a blown fuse or relay. If so, where can I locate same.

Regards

Drew

Just wondering, have you noticed any power differences?

I'm wondering if the wastegate could have been not working properly, and somehow "fixed itself" and you're getting decent turbo boost again...just a thought

Or is this on top of the normal turbo whistle?

When my egr system used to work I would occasionally hear the whistling. It has something to do with the vacuum/egr valve.

There seems to be a slight increase in power, however, the noise is on top of the normal turbo whistling and it's somewhat irritating.

Drew,
I've noticed that the nature of my turbo whistling has also changed since I upped the boost with a boost controller. It's gotten a bit louder but it's definitely bearable. Actually, I kind of like the louder sound; it sounds neat on the highway. Anyway, if your turbo whistling is really loud, it could be the bearings on their way out. I could be totally wrong but I think I read something about that a while ago. Hopefully someone can confirm or refute my idea. Good luck.

Alex

When I first got my '85 300SD it would make a doppler effect whistling noise every time the transmission up-shifted to the next gear. I tracked it down to the Air Recirculating Valve on the front of the turbo. I disconnected the switch/over valve going to the ARV and that stopped the whistling.
