That is certainly a possibility, but in this case the two keys are definitely the same cut.
The other time I had this happen was in the early 80's. I had gone to the grocery store in my '78 maroon Dodge van. On leaving, I got into the van put the key in and it started. Thinking something was not right I looked more closely and the stuff in the van was not mine. My key worked in somebody else's Dodge. I think theirs was a '79.
Later I was having mine serviced and asked the service manager about it.
He said that most manufacturers only used about 12-20 different locks that were randomly selected for each vehicle. With all of the models, options and color combinations, the odds of two vehicles the same color with the same lock was about 1 in 1200 or more. Unlikely but possible back then.
With the new chip keys, I'm guessing that is no longer a problem.
