'05 CDI Emissions message- what to do?

This message pops up every time I open the door on my '05 E320 CDI. I checked for DTC's, and there are none. I have no idea what to do about this, or even how to get rid of it. Anyone know how?

Is it a programmed maintenance message for a certain mileage kind of like the "change oil" reminders?

That would be my question, as well as what to actually do, and how to reset it?

Do you have a paper copy of the owner's manual? I'd expect there to be a place in there that should tell you what the warning messages mean at the very minimum. If it's a maintenance minder type of thing, it may even give you a reset procedure, though if it's emissions, it may be a dealer type thing.

Need to do a service reset. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS64lIaviyo

I wonder what triggers this. I've had my CDI for over two years and driven 23k miles and have never seen it.

Okay, I tried everything I could and can't get the message to go away. I get it to the service screen, and choose confirm, and I get "service Not Confirmed". The emissions message comes on again. I am not able to get to the screen where you put in the date that the service was done. Is it possible that the system knows when the service was actually performed, and won't let it confirm until it IS performed? I am also wondering what is entailed with the emissions service? Could it be a DPF cleaning? Does the CDI even have a DPF?

Do you have access to a STAR system or other MB-specific scanner?

I wonder then, what part of the emissions system/s need to be checked?

Your problem is definitely perplexing....I've not heard of others getting the same message, even after having driven tens of thousands of miles and several years. I'll be interested to hear the resolution of this.

E320CDI just has a catalytic converter not a DPF.

Is your EGR playing up? Does the car ever go into limp mode?

How many miles are on the car? I'm cresting 200,000 in mine and not seen this warning in the 70,000 miles I've put on the car.

Also did you just check for basic DTCs, or did you go into manual mode on the Carsoft and go module by module looking for errors? The latter uncovers quite a bit usually.

Rollguy, you'll need to find a shop equipped with an MB SDS or equally capable equipment. The coding in the Central Gateway needs to be changed. It's a quick straight-forward job, it only takes a few minutes to do. FWIW, a dealer will probably charge about $50.......

I have literally checked for DTC's in EVERY system in EVERY menu. I was surprised at how many stored codes there were in there. A majority were from past events, but were not at all critical to the normal operation of the specific system. The car has never gone into limp mode since I have had it. It just crossed over the 200,000 mile mark last month. Looking at the various youtube videos, it seems that this is a common message that pops up on these cars. Trying to figure out the correct button to push in order to navigate to each screen is confusing. I am sure I will figure it out.....Rich
