Exclamation 300TD wagon aux fuel tank help!!!

So I noticed some diesel fuel leaking out behind the rear driver side tire. So I pulled the spare out and noticed a flatish black tank that had 3 lines running in to it. only one was connected and I have found my diesel leak. Here is my question. Can I plug the 3 lines off and be ok. The tank is cracked at the top and 2 of the nipples that had lines on them are rotted off and can not be re attached. right now I have golf tees in the lines stoping them off. What do I need to do/ can I run it like it is stopped up? this is my first post and I don't know how to attach images

Is this tank original equipment or a MB accessory? How is it filled? Can't you remove the tank and the associated lines back to wherever they connect?

You can upload pictures directly to the post. There should be instructions to upload attachments towards the bottom of the screen in which you create a post or in the advanced options of a reply. You can also add a link to the picture directly in your post. If you frame the link with image tags - [img] picture link [/img] - the picture will embed in your post.

That is the fuel expansion tank. It's OE and fitted to all wagons as far as I'm aware. I seem to remember that there were both plastic and metal versions.

Sadly that's all I know.

Yep; don't fill with fuel till the handle clicks, just get close. When you fix the lines then it's all back to normal.

That is the expansion tank. Later wagons had a plastic version. The one on my 85 wagon was cracked and was a nice source of diesel odor.

I recommend getting the earlier metal version. They interchange without issue. I got a used one through the parts forum here.

Yep, I had the same plastic tank that was cracked in my 85', so I replaced it for the metal tank out of an 81'.
