84 300 SD W126 inline fuses installed

So I was in my fuse box and the PO had these two inline fuses spliced in. Can anyone identify what they may be for. Thanks

Only way to know is to trace out where the wiring goes. Could literally be anything. We're not clairvoyant.

Yeah I know. Just wondering if someone could recognize it as a common fix for something.

What stops working when the fuse(es) are removed?

That hadn't immediately jumped to mind, but this X3.

I've never heard of adding inline fuses as a "fix" for anything. If I had to guess... I'd bet these were added to accommodate an aftermarket accessory.

But, as the folks above said, you need to either trace the wiring, turn everything on and then pull those fuses, or do both. It's not rocket science. You'll figure it out.

It's possible that you'll trace the wires and run into a dead end.

My worthless, shot-in-the-dark guess is that (given that your car is a 1984 model) these were added as part of a 1980s car phone installation. Once again, I base that on basically nothing. Just a hunch.

I'll drop another hint - what non OE electrical equipment is there in the car? Big stereo system? High wattage lights? 2-way radio?

I didn't dig to far today into the fuses. Everything is stock in the car, no aftermarket stuff. All I knew they were added prior to '96.

A common fix is an inline fuse for the auxiliary water pump. If it seizes it has been known to take out the Pushbutton Controller or some have caused a fire.
