300D oil and brake fluid question

I have a 78 300d.

I live in NC, our winters are cold but nothing like the north. Would simple 15w-40 Delvac be fine to use? No idea the consumption of this motor, or how bad it leaks. Recently purchased and haven't driven yet.

Doing a brake flush tomorrow, any guesstimate on what's a safe number of bottles to purchase? Any special brake fluid I should be using?

Thanks guys

15-40 should be fine. 1 liter of brake fluid , DOT 4, is good with a little left over. Keep it well sealed in storage.

Thanks!!

I actually have a few gallon jugs of rotella t5 10w-30, assuming that would probably be better in our mild winters?

DOT 4 is better than DOT 3. DOT 5.1 is the best glycol fluid. I have DOT 5 (silicone) in my two 300D's. No corrosion worries. Don't pay extra for "synthetic" brake fluid. All brake fluids are synthetic and have always been.

There is a climate chart in my 300D owner's manuals. I usually use 15W30 in Sacramento, which is similar average winters to NC, but you see much colder days so might have trouble starting w/ thick oil.

DOT 3 or 4 brake fluid. Seeing you are FLUSHING and not just bleeding, you might need more. It depends on how much it takes before clean fluid comes through. I think I have usually dumped flush bottle after two wheels. 20 oz bottle (591ml) so maybe 250ml per wheel. 1L would just do it, but I use more because the pressure bleeder needs a level of fluid in it so it doesn't blow air. So, for me - 2L and throw away the unused part (because it absorbs moisture from air once opened)

For oil, I usually use 10W40 or 15W50 synthetic . Don't drive diesel much in winter. Need low viscosity for winter starts, but once car warms up you need higher. I would think that Delvac 10W30 might be OK for your winter driving, but I have always a bit heavier oil even in our more severe winters.

Thanks guys.

The car made it home, which was a 3 hour drive without issues.

It was sitting for a very long time. The oil level was right above the full mark, but just a hair when I left... Thinking it will probably burn or leak out by the time I got home, to change the oil I left it alone. When I got home the level didn't change...

It was overfilled almost 3 quarts!!!!!
