I think it's total BS. In stock trim, EGR is defeated in full throttle acceleration. As a 'performance mod', EGR defeat is a non-starter. Whatever the cause of his initial problem, it's unclear what was really done here.

EGR is disabled at WOT (or full-fueling on a diesel), so unless the valve is broken it can't cause an acceleration problem. True on all cars, old or new. So what was the original problem with the car? It sounds like the benefit comes from disabling limp-home mode, but that doesn't explain why it's limping. |

Karteks EGR delete is for the OM606, not the CDI. You are talking about apples, I am talking about oranges. The guys in the UK have the schematic on the thread, and offer a lot of help there as well (other users and their experiences).

I have a fully functioning emissions system on my car and it doesn't lay smoke screens or lack power and averages around 30 MPG in mixed rural driving. BTW, what are your engine temps like? Your engine should reach and maintain 85C-90C after a few miles of driving (in the summer). If your EGR's already been replaced (and you don't and any other issues, i.e. boost leaks, intake flaps (check if the linkage is attached) ect.), you should be able to resolve you power/smoke/mpg issues by replacing a few sensors. Yes, it's going to cost some $$$ (probably less than you think), but that's what happens when you have a 100Kmi+ modern electronically controlled diesel. Like gasoline engines, at a certain point modern diesels benefit from having various (MAF/O2) sensors replaced for optimal operation (power/mpg ect.). Also, the revised EPA mileage ratings are 23/33/27 (vs. the original 27city/37hwy) and this coupled with the MPG display being around 10% optimistic, has led people to believe the cars are getting much better milage than they actually are. Still, I agree you should be averaging much more then 26 mpg. |

EGR emulator
The EGR valves do seem to develop problems on the 2005 and 6 e320 CDIs.
The early '05s seem to have had more issues. Anyone use this emulator to bypass the EGR? Any downside to bypassing?: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_id=114&ipn=icep&toolid=20004&campid=5337980310&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FMercedes-EGR-valve-emulator-C-E-S-ML-220-CDI-270CDI-320CDI-CDI3-%2F263067706614
