I believe it is 5 on 4.75". or 4.5".

The original wheels on the Coupe Express are 5 on 5 but the newer are smaller I believe.

As I wrote on BangShift (this is a cut-n-paste) - It's Alive!!!!

I tried to start it yesterday but it was a no-go. Took a while to sort out that it was out of time - the aftermarket vibration dampner has 3 sets of timing marks and I wasn't sure which set to use. Resolved now.

Turns out it was 180* out of time. The front (exhaust - I forgot to look) rocker feels almost like it's loose when the timing is 180 off but when I got it right it was clear that both were wiggleable. The drinking straw trick worked perfectly (put a straw in the open spark plug hole and use it to tell when the piston is at TDC).

NOTE to Ford guys with the 3 sets of timing marks - the correct set of marks on a 5.0 based engine with the higher, right-hand timing pointer is the set closest to the radiator.

I haven't yet installed the coolant so that will be my next step though I'll be out of commission for a few days.

The engine sounds great and I have a bunch of details to sort out (like why the new gages don't work) but this is a BIG step.

Dan

Took a video today of the Volvo burning fuel. It probably has something like 15-20 minutes run time on it now and the thermostat has opened so we'll see how the coolant level looks tomorrow after it cools down.

Let's try the vid:

That's a YouTube link - don't know if that will work on here.

Cool. I appreciate swaps since so much time and thought goes into them. I have pondered what to do if I run out of diesel engines for my W123's. I have a spare 1965 Mopar 273 small-block + tranny w/ fixed output flange like my M-B, so "just because ...". But, like most U.S. engines, the oil pan doesn't drop down at the front like the OM617. I have heard mention of people installing a Chevy small-block in a W123.
