Well, I took the plunge. Just purchased a 2006 E320 CDI, tealite blue metallic on artico grey, 146,000 (mostly highway) miles, essentially perfect condition, always garaged. While I was partly motivated by the price (somewhere within what I defined as my “great deal” range…many thanks to GregMN and his mother-of-all-spreasheets for helping me assess the market), what ultimately made me think I couldn’t let this one go was the maintenance history.

I have never seen such thorough documentation (binders, spreadsheets, etc..) and such a meticulous, over-the-top maintenance regimen….everything is there from Day 1. This guy, by his own admission, had a maniacal commitment to maintenance the likes of which I have never seen…attributes it to his German extraction. Puts even the most conscientious of us to shame. He recently bought an E250 Bluetec (Euro delivery), hence the sale of the CDI.

Came with goodies: roof rack, multiple sets of mats, trunk liner, MB shop manual CD, and extra rims with snows.

Interestingly, his neighbor has an 06 CDI with 380,000 miles on it. Other than the SBC and one injector, only routine maintenance in all those miles.

In my game of musical cars, I will drive the CDI, my son will take control of the 98 E300, and I will be selling the 99 E300. My wife, while somewhat reluctantly acquiescing to this purchase, all but extracted from me a commitment that this is something of a terminal purchase: no more upgrading! I think I can live with that….

I saw one come across craigslist in Oregon with similar mileage, one owner, huge stack of records, etc, etc for $7900.

Happened while I was out of the area in CA, and sold within 6 hours

I never knew about these vehicles until then. They sound awesome -- Powerful, good mileage and fairly reliable.

Same color as mine. Beautiful. I purchased mine 2 years ago with 69k miles, now have 85k. Still has original SBC unit which will eventually have to be replaced. Love it!

This is the end of the road, Shertex.... 124, to 210, to 211 CDI. There's nothing to really upgrade to at this point... maybe the E250, but the double balance shafts and turbos, emissions ad Blu system and all the other stuff doesn't look all that promising to me.
