w116 300sd Engine Shocks/Engine mount
Would appreciate the recommendation
The Engine mounts with the Engine shocks need to be replaced on my 1979 300sd. They are shot. Dealer is not cheap I'm wondering who might be manufacturing engine shocks and mount kits that are as good as OEM 123-240-10-48 Engine Mount 116-240-00-17 Mount Kit (Need 2) Car is stuck in the garage Already replaced a whole bunch of other stuff and just when I thought the car was ready to go, the mounts where the engine shocks get attached to fell apart. |

For engine mounts go with lemforder they should be no more than $20 each. There are extensive threads on engine mounts and how lemforders are genuine Mercedes with the star rubbed off.
As for the engine mounts kit I replaced these parts about 6 months ago on my car (same model/year) and searched high and low for an OEM equivalent. I only came up with genuine Mercedes mounts. Don't pay more than $240 for a set with free shipping. I can say that there will be no disappointment from having to buy the OEM other than the steep cost. And you can rest assure you wont have to do the job again in 6mo to 2 years.

The engine mounts that I was referring to are the engine mount kits which hold the engine shocks in position. The engine shocks are also shot. Thanks for the advice on the lemforder mounts, I purchased them a few months back and just replaced them last week. The engine mount kit fell apart and the engine shocks cannot be held in place. I will take the advice on using OEM engine mount kits. Any recommendations on the engine shocks.

As for the engine shocks, go with Stabilus. They are the OEM supplier for the shocks, I replaced mine with Stabilus the same time as the mounts and they have held up wonderfully.
Vice grips are paramount in the shock removal/installation process because remove the old shocks can be a big pain as they tend to spin when the nut is being unscrewed. I used them on in the installation process to prevent any possibly damage in the event the shock did try to spin while the nut was being tightened. The slide on the shock is hardened steel, no worries about putting any nicks in it.

Those little Shocks have a flat spot for a (as I remember) 7mm open
end wrench to keep them from turning while you tighten the 10mm Nut. Charlie sent from my pos computer

Yes, it is 7mm. The flats are just above the stop washer. It's a little difficult to find blind, but you can do it by feel.
