W210 paint code

Where can I find the paint code for my '97? I need to order a bottle of touchup paint to fix some chips. I think I have Brilliant Silver but want to be sure.

Internet says I have a plaque on the driver's door jamb but I don't see it.

Thanks,

Chalrie

There's a metal plate screwed to the upper radiator brace; it has all the codes including the paint codes stamped into it.

Go to epc.startekinfo.com and register. You need a credit card only to prove you are in the U.S.

You will need a Windows computer for this, and your Java needs to be up to date.

Once you have it set up then input your VIN and then select the 'data card' function. This gives you all the options for your car.

That's the easiest way!

Charlie,
Here is a picture of a typical plate. Upper highlighted number is the interior, lower the exterior paint code. (Kindly supplied by Benzworld W210 forum member RichardM98!) I think the M after 744 is for metallic.

Thanks! I found the plaque - paint code 744M - Brilliant Silver, like I thought. I ordered a touchup kit that includes a clear coat pen and some buffing compound.

There have been some discussions that the letters after are the maker of the paint. G = Gglasurit S = Sikkens ( ? ) = Dr. Herbert

I know on two tone cars there is an upper and lower code.

My 97 SL320 has 702 U ( Uber = Over ) and 702 O ( ? ) ( Smoke Silver Metallic ) . The lower sections are matt finish in my case so the O must mean matt finish.

Cars that are single tone generally have a matt finish on the " removable components " ( lower plastic trim , mirror housings , bumpers ). For matt a 4 place number is used, it seems that the regular color # is used for the last 3 places then a number is placed in the front, I think this is done for ordering paint and the first # isn't on the tag.

From my earlier post.

www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/318879-whats-my-bumper-trim-color-code.html?highlight=paint+code

On my 97 SL , the paint codes are on the bottom right with the top code being the main body and code below it being trim.

Here is my list of color codes, not sure what years but they look to be late 80's and up.
