I'd trade my wagon for anything else, useful as it's been at times.

Unfortunately I hate selling cars most of all (the aggressive nitpicking, the ridiculous lowballing, et cetera), so I'm in it until it implodes.

A Mercedes Motoring restored 300TD wagon. There isn't much else I would want to replace it with.

Have to say im seriously considering it, curious what others might consider a fair straight trade for an old rusty diesel benz with a bunch of miles on it?

If someone came up to you and said, ill trade you xxxx for your beloved 300D, what would have you say yes?
Any BDRM from the last 20 years. I could then go downtown w/o worrying about people who try to cut in front of me.

My 1987 300TD wagon was sold and my 2003 W210 E320 wagon was totaled (sheds tear).

I would only trade my 300D for money. After the work I have put in over past few years, probably more than anyone would offer!

I could use the garage space, but would hate to part with the car after 25 years of faithful service.

I'm thinking of selling my Late 84SD parts car and 85SD that has been hit in the back. I'd take anything worth more than they are.

The 85 has been in the family since new and is in decent shape but I'm getting tired of working on one car, jumping to the next then the other and never having one completely finished.

Both the 85 and parts car are pretty much rust free and would make 1 really nice car if someone wanted to do the work. I don't have the time to learn body work and haven't been to the boat all season. Less projects may be a nice relief even though I may regret selling my son's Grand Dad's car. It's an antique next year.

Well call me nuts, but i did the straight trade for the 02 focus.

Weirdest trade ive ever made, the cars are literally incomparable. Very cool guy, basically was going to sell his car for exactly the same price i was asking for the wagon. Did some research and figured what the hell.

120k focus 2.0 Zetec hatchback with new tires,(not the dreaded P vin 2.0) spare set of mouted snow tires, and a few issues like sway bar links and minor rust spots. For this he got a 330k diesel wagon with a broken odo and radio, extensive cosmetic rust, good tires and spare snows, and needing paint and a lot of minor tinkering.

The wife calls this new car a "soulless black bubble". it is fun to drive though. Both cars are good runners and have their problems

/obligatory sell crap when you didn't ask/

I have a Fidanza flywheel for that engine..weighs 11lbs, and has a medium grippy clutch to boot. If it doesn't fit my heap it's gonna be up for sale

/obligatory advice you didn't ask for/
When the EGR starts throwing a code replace the silicone lines($15) to the DPFE sensor and possibly the DPFE sensor-same one used on exploders/rangers/tauruses/etc.

I'd trade my '81 300SD for a '95 E320 wagon with updated wiring harness and recent head gasket replacement. My 300Sd is in excellent shape, so this trade wouldn't be unreasonable to a diesel lover/collector.

If I were selling a car, then I've already decided to part ways.
There should be no emotion in the transaction.

All trades would be considered. It's the math that matters.

Would the proposed trade be:

1. Easy to flip.
2. Worth the effort, that is, is it's value greater than what I could have gotten in a cash sale.
3. Is that extra value worth the time I'd invest to sell the trade.

If the answers to the above are all yes, then it's worth it to accept the trade.

Otherwise, ummm, no.

Jim
