There are bushings. Its specifically called a bearing bushing, which has no rollers. There are also taper bearings, roller bearings and needle bearings. There are more than two bearing bushings in the 717.400 IIRC. I will get the manual out if you insist.

I'd bet all "live" components ie those that spin directly adjacent to one another have bearings. There may be an inner race they refer to as a bushing pressed on to the shaft but not "live". Mercedes doesn't do that. Everything that moves has bearings. Not so with american trannys. They have bushings where mercedes and volvo have needle bearings. Your right.
I see the bearing bushings are right next to the bearings in my diagram. It is from the 717.400 parts blow up from the dealer. I have the shop manual PDF as well. it looks like the needle bearing runs on the bushing. I don't have time to post anything pdf right now. possibly later.
