B2 piston availability

My wife's car (95 E300) just lost all forward gears so I got ready to order the B2 piston and various parts. Didn't seem to be anything tough.... except the dealer couldn't find any in stock in the US or in Germany.

B2 piston for 722.435
p/n 201 270 02 32
$136 wholesale

I got the last one in the country from a little dealer up in Vermont thanks to the help of one parts guy I knew. Note on the part: Mercedes has an order in place for 52 pieces, will be available between March - June 2014.

So if you need this part, I only found two websites that said they had it in stock for $150+.

My son just lost his forward gears too. He was slamming too much to get out of some snow/ice. I wonder if the shortage of B2 pistons has been brought about by the increase in snow related transmission abuse?

Sometimes it is the B2 Brake Band that is Broken. It is a pain to have to wait until you check to see if it is the Band or not but you could end up with a brand new B2 Piston and the related Seals that you cannot use due to a broken band.

Before I did mine one of our Members suggested pulling a used B2 one from one of the later models where the B2 Piston is easier to get (W125 or W126 I cannot remember which one) at from the Junk Yard. He said it only cost His Friend something like $3.50 for the used one and you may be able to purchase the outer Nylon Seal by itself.
