124 Seat belt getting harder and harder to latch

I know this isn't diesel specific, but anyway. As time goes on the driver's seatbelt is getting more and more difficult to latch - putting the male part into the buckle. I almost have to use two hands to force it in. I've looked in the buckle for lint buildup and/or other debris, and used compressed air to blow into the slot, but no improvement.

Has anyone swapped a buckle or disassembled one for this reason?

is the plastic liner still intact around the belt insert tongue? My 87 has the plastic torn, and it makes it difficult to insert unless it's TOTALLY aligned.

I don't know, but

Check youtube, see if there's anything on there about it. Seems to me a buckle is fairly straight forward; metal clicking into metal. So there's something stopping it from making a proper connection, maybe lint in there from years of use. See if you can somehow take it apart, or even blow it out with an air gun to see if that might help.
