Does anyone send a RIV light for timing a 603?

I was contacting various people but couldn't get a RIV light. Does anyone have one of these lights and would send it to me for a reasonable price...please pm me.
Best Martin

Do you mean the A-B light or the strobe? I've never heard of a privately owned strobe. IIRC it had/has a four figure price tag and only does one thing.

I assume he is referring to the device mentioned in these links:
RIV timing method
300SDL increase of injector pressure

I am amazed that some people don't know the timing of the 60X IP procedure.

Yes, the RIV light is the A-B light...It is a MB tool that screws into the side of the IP and indicates the correct timing when turning the crankshaft indicated by the two lights (A,B).
Unfortunately the setting has no direct relation to the 'beginning of injection' which should be 24 deg BTDC. In fact the set point with the RIV is 15 deg ATDC which should correspond with the 24 deg BTDC.

So does someone have this light and would rent it out to me?
This tool was formerly available through the forum tool renting program but I have a hard time finding it now.

Yes but why would you use a $400 tool when you can use the $30 lock to get the same effect? No one is likely to rent an RIV tool if they have one...

$400 is cheap if this is the same tool referenced in the first thread Shortsguy posted. 617-589-09-21-00. Did a Google search on the part# and looked at the google images, not much came up, but this Dealer has it listed.

Did a little more digging and Google searching. and thought that above part number and price couldn`t be right. one # different and the price really changes.

617-589-09-21-00 is what I posted above.
Found this # for the RIV Timing tool 617-589-09-21-00

Mercedes Benz RIV TRANSMITTER - 617589082100

RIV TRANSMITTER - [617589082100]

RIV TRANSMITTER Make : Mercedes Benz Part#: 617589082100 List Price : $322.00 Your Price : $386.40

Still don`t get list and your price, need to reverse it.

The tool is listed for $499 here on pelican.

-082100 is the A-B timing light, -092100 is an inductive RIV sensor adapter (sensor cable is -102100) that has an inductive trigger for a timing light; still based on RIV, not start of delivery.

IIRC it's common for MB price lists to show only list price (no dealer price) for tools. Dealers typically don't discount tools, they mark up tools. I suppose that's better than marking up parts though lately I see dealers selling small parts, say clips under $10, for 2x or 3x list.

From what I have read the A-B Light is a static timing; meaing that you don't run the Engine.

The RIV set has more extensive equipment than the A-B Light and I believe you can use it with the Engine running.

There was a few Members that had A-B Lights.

I am with you on this one. The Timing/Locking Pin uses the same Tang on the Fuel Injection Pump Camshaft and a form of static timing.
The A-B Light is also static timing.
If for some reason there is any difference in the timing between the 2 methods I doubt if it makes any practical difference.

However, People like their Electrical gadgets.

The nice thing about the A-B light is you can turn the crank continuously rather than bring the lug into view before inserting the tool then turning slowly until it engages.

The thing to do is get a timing light to fire when both A and B are lit. Then you have a dynamic tool for 80% off list.
