W123 Door Striker Inserts (Locking Eye)

Problems with slamming your doors to close them?

For the inserts goto ebay and do a search for W123 Locking Eye. Guy in Thailand selling a pack of 4 for $16.50 plus $6.00 for shipping. Mark your strikers prior to removing them. My allen bolts came out fine with an allen on a socket driver. Remove the big black rubber pin insert. Scrape (Dust) out the remainder of the old nylon insert and clean out the small hole. Set the new insert in and slide the rubber pin insert back together. Remount the striker per your marked lines.

Daughter and I did all 4 doors in 30 minutes. All doors close like new.

Material seems to be of decent quality, not too hard and not too soft; urethane like, not hard plastic.

Purchased on the 13th of November; received on the 27th. Luckily I was home when the mail came, as it required a signature.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

+ 1 Thank you again to the OP for posting this! I looked all over when these little things failed on my car.

In the end, I gave up on finding the little "tongues" (locking eye's?). I was lucky enough to have a forum member help me out with a set and I replaced all of the strikers.

I ordered a set for my 126. Hopefully, they'll be in by Christmas at the latest.

Yep, that's them

Yes, that's exactly what I got. In a sealed plastic bag that came from Thailand requiring a signature.

Now for the real test; getting the door strikers off the car. I put a couple of drops of penetrant liquid at the top of each door striker screw and 4-5 drops on the top of the striker plate (where it meets the body) of each door on two successive days. Then on the third day:
  1. I used a black Sharpie to outline the edges of the door striker on the body. This helps with re-alignment.
  2. I took my 5mm hex socket, lightly tapped it into the head of the screw, applied pressure toward the screw and slowly turned. I managed to get all of the screws loosened without ruining any of them.
  3. Depending on the exact model (the 123s are a little different than the 126s) you have to remove the rubber insert from the metal frame of the door striker. There is a metal plate pressed into place that you will have to locate and pull first.
  4. Scrape out all of the remnants of the previous door striker inserts.
  5. Put it all back together with the new inserts in place.
I still have issues with exact door striker alignment, but it all works fine.

thanks for the heads up on these. i installed 3 out of 4 just now. i actually cant believe that the rubber "plug" is still pliable after 30+ years. that must be the highest quality piece of rubber on the entire car.

the plug slides out away from the metal. so if you put a screwdriver blade in between the rubber and the metal clamp you can pry it down and out. it has grooves that align on the locking eye so you cant install it the wrong way.

the doors shut like a mercedes now

also i had no issues at all getting the bolts that hold the striker to the body out. maybe it has something to do with it being a california car. dunno. the old locking eyes shattered into pieces when i removed them, so they were obviously needing to be replaced.

on a w123 i think it would be impossible. the rubber part that holds the cone that the pin on the door goes into has to be removed from the striker in order to remove the locking eye
