I checked and it is indeed the correct color. It is a beautiful color and with canuba wax on it, it is like a pool of water. My 83 toyota tercel was a similar color and it was great too. Does not really show the dirt.

I painted them black, they had yellowed over the years and didn't match as the lights came from diffrent cars, because of the front end damage.

Ahh. So you painted the areas of glass that the light doesn't actually pass through? Makes sense.

How did you paint the glass?

I think he painted the plastic around the reflectors, NOT the glass.

I have a 1985 300D fourspeed with STT turbo conversion ( i have found a few of these in Australia) . The Four speed is great to drive with,if a little baulky in the shift. I missed a non running 5 speed 300D here last year, being out bid on fleabay by about 3 grand.....
I guess you have done the tappets and checked the chain ? / The engine mounts on a manual 300 get a flogging too,so it may pay to fit new front and rears before driving regularly .

My car was sold new in Cyprus ,shipped to Australia when newish , then stored for 10 years. The PO bought it and used it a little for 10 years before i got it . It has still only done 114,000 miles. It has a few options such as the manual trans, heavy duty suspension ,tinted glass and aircon which is not common on European mercedes of this age. i have had a few W123's and have a few other different model mercs, but the W123 is the favorite driver.

Nice read. If not for the Pelican parts email shout-out, I would have missed this thread.

The car looks great !

I may have overlooked this but, is the color Ivory or White?

BTW Pick n Pull in Oakland, CA. has some W123 '77 and '79.

I'd go and pull the metal 'hose' for the other member,CoolJay, but I am having knee surgery tomorrow.

No long drives for me....

Nice car and story.

Got the rear bumper installed! it looks fantastic!
Except for the part where I lost my balance while aligning it and it bumped into eather side of the car putting gouges into the paint

I sent a picture to my friend who details cars. He siad he can try and fix it with some touch up paint. I called my mom and told her the bad news, and she is ordering the touch up paint for me. Hope it works out

The worst of the gouges.

But aside from the damage, the bumper looks great on there!

The lesson here is: If your going to install chrome bumpers against new paint, put some electrical tape or other protection around the sharp chrome edges. Sadly I didn't think of this until this morning looking at the car again.

Here is todays activities.

Cleaned the intake manifold. Cleaned and painted the exhaust manifold. Cleaned and painted the turbo (outside only, The turbo has really nice play, or last there of, so I didn't rebuild it.) Manifold and turbo painted with 2000*F header paint. I did this to my engine a few years back and the paint is holding up well. I cleaned and painted the heat sheilds for the starter while I was at it. I used some 1200*F rustolum my friend left after we did some work on his wifes TDI. Turned out looking like new!

Cleaned the intake with power purple and a wire brush on the outside.

I soaked the intake over night in power putple diluted in water, that made it clean in the inside!

This is just mocked up. Waiting on the boost and EGT gauges before I install the manifolds.

What is the diff ratio in the new car ?
Diesels require a different ratio because of the engines slower speed.
