I think most of these brackets are bent for this reason honestly, they are just too weakly constructed with that folded ear to break the corrosion bond and bend in first.
Glad to hear I am not only one!

I recommend you go beyond WD40 to loosen the stuff up.

Release-All, Gig-A-Loo, Honey Goo, etc. are all more effective, and all are available at Crappy Tire.

I have Release-All but nothing came out when I pushed the button

I got everything loosened up without WD-40 and was also able to straighten the bracket - I can see that it will not deform when tightening, but it will when loosening if the hinges etc are not free (or as vstech said still bolted tight!). BTW, CCW to loosen, CW to tighten! May be obvious to some, but not me

New belts on order, so may not finish this till next week. Want to first check that water pump and alternator rotate freely anyway. I now have new valve cover gasket just in case I get bored, but I think I may leave valves till spring.

You have a store called crappy tire in Canada!?

PB Blaster or Kano aerokroil are the best around here

I think Crappy Tire now sells PB Blaster. It used to be only one of mystery miracle fluids we read about from America.

Crappy Tire is a nickname given to Canadian Tire. It is something like Autozone, Dicks, Lowes and Walmart rolled into one and only slightly downsized! Anything for your car, home, garden, sports and even some groceries. We love to hate them, but we all shop there (but don't get our cars serviced there!)

Your comment got me to check out my jackets. But I found no such cords hanging loose. Then I just noticed my camera lying on my desk. What was in video, was the wrist strap on the camera. Wouldn't want it to get caught up either, but I now know to put it around my wrist!

I bought some there this summer, but for some reason when I search for it now on the website it isn't shown anymore... and I happened to look at my local store last night, and it isn't on the shelf. Strange.

But if you can get it, highly recommended. If CT doesn't have, then try a UAP or NAPA dealer, sure they will....

For VStech's enjoyment: English | Canadian Tire

You might also want to check the turbo down pipe and the heat shield between the starter and the engine block. Both of these will make a vibrating sound when they have failed. The turbo down pipe is an easy fix, the heat shield a little more work as the starter needs to be removed in order to replace the heat shield.

Just to conclude. New belts are on and noise has gone. It seems that leak from tstat gasket was dripping on alt belts causing them to slip. So new job to do (see separate topic)
