When Shopping for a "Garaged" W210 - check headlight lenses.......

After the transferring of my bought new '99 E300TD / with 131K miles, I thought I'd post some pics. of what actual "garaged, non-resurfaced" W210 headlight lenses should look like when doing a comparative analysis of a similar 15+ year old MB.

So are those plastic or glass? I see the plastic one`s getting all yellowed and nasty looking.

Well that is special. spend $50,000 for a car and a few years down the road you can`t see where you are going.

Last vehicle I owned with actual glass aerodynamic headlights (not sealed beams) was a 1992 Honda Accord. The 90-93 style had real glass, starting in 94 they went to plastic.

Everybody does plastic now. And every older car going down the road falls into 1 of 3 categories.

1 - cloudy as hell and they are living with it
2 - polished out and not cloudy for now
3 - relplaced either because they were too cloudy to polish or the car has ben in a fender bender

My W124 has glass headlights but the surrounds look like crap. Other things higher on the list right now.

My W210 is in category 2. PO polished lenses and added Lamin-X film to help keep them looking fresh.

And my 2008 ML still looks great, not sure if they buffed them at the dealer as part of the detail or the PO took good care of the car. I'm thinking the latter since the rest of the car is in such nice shape.

My 2004 CR-V is in category 3 due to an impromptu meeting with a Grand Cherokee back in 2008. The replacement lenses still look good but that car has lived most of its life in a garage.

My brother's 2002 W210 has glass lights....change late in the series? Or later replacement? Not documented in the repair history...so no idea. But they look nice.

Category *4 Headlamp lenses look as those in Post #1 - because the car was actually garaged with no touching-up of any kind in 14-yrs......when not being driven.

I noticed there's more and more of these old cars coming on-line FS, and every time I see the word; 'garaged' I'm noticing that in case after case, going by the lenses ~ there's little doubt the car hasn't been.
