Note to Self: Check Those Jack Points!

Was always pretty pleased by the relative freedom from rust on my 92 300D....year-round car on salted roads, first in PA then RI. My mistake: I never opened up the jack point panels. All four are badly rusted. If I had been checking them all along, maybe I could have slowed progress with POR-15. So, we'll be taking a trip to my auto body shop.

Thankfully the 91 is in great shape....it never sees salt to the extent possible.

Well, to add to the potential inherent dangers that are about old MBs.......even though I bought my old '99 MB brand new and always garaged, it has never seen the rigors of more than a couple days per year of horrific rust-belt, chemically treated roads in the winter, I still use two jackstand points per quadrant, when raising the car in any of the (4) quadrants. That being, dual jackstands......one jackstand under the MB body's jackpad, and one jackstand under the corner of the unibody-frame. Two jackstands placed per quadrant, is the only way I would/will trust getting beneath that quadrant while working on the vehicle. Safety is paramount to life, limb, and longevity. Good catch shertex!
