Upgraded Spal HD aux fans for W124?
Anybody here know of any documented upgraded aux fans?
I have the later model dual fan assembly and shield, but it won't fit on the stock condenser and you cannot upgrade the condenser without significant power steering/compressor mount changes. Anybody done a custom one? I would like to upgrade to improve cooling and A/C performance when summer hits 115F here. I read one post that recommended the Spal HD fans, but I have no clue how to mount it up...

spal fans are easy to work with, they have mounting ears all over its periphery, you would need to get a bit creative though - nothing more than a hacksaw and drill creative.

Looking into this further...
Where would I mount the ears to?

Remove the auxiliary fans and the clutch fan and install a pair of puller fans behind the radiator. Pusher fans are inherently less efficient than pullers. You want to expose as much of the condenser frontal area to oncoming air as possible. If you take a look at any of the newer MBs you'll see they have the whole front of the condenser exposed and only rely on electric puller fans. The trick is to find a fan that will fit in the 3" between the engine and the radiator. Mine are 2.5" thick cheapy ebay fans but they work brilliantly.
