Question OM603 engine - Oil pump chain tensioner R&R

This is another engine work in progress. I have the head and the oil pan removed. Engine is still in car. I replaced the oil pump chain, not crimped tight yet. The plastic oil chain tensioner looks a bit rough. It is holding the chain in place OK but I would like to replace it if it is easy. How to do it? It looks difficult.

Any comment is appreciated.

The question seems too simple to me so maybe I don't understand your situation. If the front cover is off, the oil pump chain tensioner just slips out of and into place. Mind how the spring goes. If the front cover isn't off, how did you replace the chain?

The front cover is not off. It was the engine with the oil chain snapped a while back and engine damaged. I think I can put it back together. I replaced the oil pump chain but I have not crimped the master link yet. I have the special tool. I want to replace the tensioner but I do not know how to remove it.

If the tensionser slips off from the front then it is not possible to replace it from underneath !! It still feels OK and may be I leave it alone.

oil pump crimping tool

Hello,

I just emailed you wondering about the compatibility of your tool with the 602.962 1991 300D engine .

Thankyou
