I need to remove the retract and belt mechanism, so the trim cover needs to come off.

The plastic cover at the bottom of the B pillar has 2 Phillips screws. Remove them and the panel will come off and down. Remove the trim from the edges of the door well and the B pillar cover will come off except for the very top where a clip is pressed into the sheet metal. That takes a little wiggling to get it loose.
Note that once the cover is off, it will still be trapped by the seat belt. Jeremy

Any tips for reinstall?
I find that getting it back on is the hard part of the job.
What I find difficult: getting it to stay in place with the bottom edge nicely seated in the plastic trim piece (which requires some upward pressure) while I try to align it with the screw holes to secure the whole thing. I find it hard to hold it steady without having it pop back out of its upper slot. If that description makes sense....

It helps to have the front seat removed.

Or at least movable. It gets interesting when the car is in the junk yard and you find a nice set of B-pillar trim. Rare as hen's teeth, though.
