Suitable transmissions for 190D 2.5 manual conversion
Well I have spent some time researching 5 speed manual transmissions that would bolt up to an OM602 2.5NA that currently has a dead automatic in it (you can read my other threads, but the transmission only shifts into reverse and has water in the ATF). I came across this on BenzWorld, seems to be the same story as me: Transmission questions - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum
"INCOMPLETE LISTING AT4: 722.4** MT5: 717.4** Getrag_275Z------------717.404 190D 2.2----------------717.410 190E ???----------------717.411 190D 2.5----------------717.413 190E 2.3 sportline-------717.413 190E 2.3----------------717.412/3 190E 2.6----------------717.432 Gear Ratio 717.404----------------4.08, 2.52, 1.77, 1.26, 1.00, R4.16, D3.07 717.410----------------4.23, 2.36, 1.49, 1.00, 0.84(0.81), R4.63, D3.42(3.23) (3.91>11/85) 717.411----------------3.91, 2.32, 1.42, 1.00, 0.78 717.412 717.413 717.432----------------3.86, 2.18, 1.38, 1.00, 0.80, R4.22, D3.27 >89 3.92" I also saw this, the 250D which I assume was the same engine: Technical data for Mercedes 124 Sedan, Coupe, Estate: 124.125 (250D) and as you can see, it says it was mated to the 717.410, 717.411, and 717.412. So question is, which of these should I be looking for? I'm looking for an overdrive to that takes the .404 out of the picture. Also, for the conversion, will I need the master and slave cylinders off of the manual cars? Some "completes" kits have them, some don't and I really don't know enough about how they function to know if or why I need different ones. I have 2-3 forum members offering me a manual swap, along with another member on here that informed me there was a kit available on BenzWorld (I couldn't find it myself) along with 3 or 4 that I have found on ebay, all of which I am trying to get the numbers on. Any problems with any of these transmissions that I need to look out for? Also, what should I look for in terms of a rear diff?

Well be sure you get the whole system, best gotten as in a complete parts car. You need everything for the swap. Not just the transmission. You need all the clutch and flywheel parts, hydraulic parts, you need the shift rods and the shifter, (The shifter box that mounts to the bottom of the floor. And always a few more bits. That is why if you have the complete car it really helps. A gas engine or diesel engine car does not really matter, both will work, though the flywheel is engine specific. The 190 does have a somewhat different style and more expensive clutch. If you do buy a parts car and there are a few available after hurricane Sandy, I would stay away from a "flood" damage parts car.

I bought a 1984 190E 2.2 5speed (with 717.411) on Craigslist. It had some engine trouble though it could drive. Needed priming, smoked badly, etc. These factors got the price low even though it was in the "cars & trucks" section instead of the "auto parts" section, though you can check both. Atlanta area frequently has a good variety. Also, pick and pull junk yards are an option, though I would want to have the car side by side. If you do the swap, my thread might help. Good luck!

Generally speaking transmissions interchange among engines available in the same chassis series.
Junque offers good advice. I have done several such conversions and have learned not to do it unless the donor car is accessible, preferably within a few steps. My $0,02
