My Manual Boost Controller
My car gives me 9 psi. The low end and midrange is much nicer. It is starting to run pretty well. I want to get a bit more out of for those times I might be passing on a two lane road.
I have seen the manual boost controllers they are very inexpensive Mine is even less expensive. What fun is it to buy one when you can make it. Here I am going to test the pressure that it builds and either increase or decrease the spring tension. I also need to drill a small bleed hole on the waste gate side of the valve to relieve the pressure once the foot feed is let off. . I am using a chrome plated round head screw as a valve. With the brass body as the seat. It is what I had handy I will be sure to follow up.

I just gave it a test. It levels off now a 13.5 psi. A bit higher than spec.
Noticable improvement in acceleration. I might try a small added shim. I wouldn't attempt to do this without a pressure gauge.

While I admire the inventiveness and fabrication if you had to go out and buy the Brass Fittings and other parts; you could likey buy yourself a New Adjustable Boost Controler on eBay with Free Shipping for about $15.
Several years ago they were around $10 but the price has crept up.

I have about 8.50 in mine. I had to buy the brass but had the spring and valve. Cost is not the primary reason I built it myself.
The spring I used came from a spare spring from my reloader. I think the screw (used as a valve) came from a bicycle water bottle mount. I switched the back side spacer to a bike spoke nipple. Reducing the preload on the spring. I have it torqued all down, tightening the spring and didn't want to raise the relief pressure. I knew I was going to get comments like "You can buy one " But I wouldn't be able have in operation in a few hours. Would lose the thrill of making myself. Also I would need to use paypal....Not for me if I can help it. Old Sinner, The only kind of ball valves that I am familiar with have a handle and are quarter turn. All this work on the Benz turbo has made me curious about the settings on my vw. I have never check them.

Here is mine all buttoned up. Note the .041" bleed hole at the top. I am not convinced that is necessary but I only had the connections hand tight on my trial run and I am sure I was getting a bit of leakage between the fittings.
The intake manifold hooks to the bottom and the side port is hooked to the waste gate controller. Oldsinner I am still having difficulty with visualizing your check valve. Are you just bleeding off pressure all the time?

I have never connected it as I have never set up anything to check My Boost. The Kit I have comes with a T fitting so you can connect a Boost Gauge more easily. I am actually OK with My Cars performance but at some point I am going to get curious and will hook that stuff up.

Third time is the charm. I ran it after reducing the tension and got a max of 11. 13 felt a lot better. Brought it back up. Will boost to 13 in 2nd and ~14 in third. I am leaving it like that.

Diesel 911. I am sure you have done the math. Normal sea level pressure is ~14.7 psi. So if you have 9 it is like it is running at 23.7 and if you have a boost of 14 you have 28.7 Of course there is heat to contend with. I don't plan on using mine full out much as I generally don't drive that way and the mod doesn't affect the way it runs on cruise. It is like having a 5800 cc NA diesel at least for a few seconds, until the intake charge heats up.
Why the positive comments German Star? I don't see much in the way of down side. Saved some busted knuckles by not having to tune the waste gate directly.

I think the ones that have exhaust heat issues or the ones who remove the ALDA completey and run the Turbo at a higher than spec boost. If someone lived at a high Altitude the extra boost could be a help.

I think there is at least 4 Members who have bought them;this is the first complaint I have read.
I fact I learned about them and that they were sold on eBay on this forum. It is way too late as I bought bought mine over 3 years ago and it is still in the Zip Lock Bag. I am not sure what I did with the Silicon Vacuum Hose that came with it. The Kit that I have is selling for $17+ on eBay.
