Speedometer jumping-

Cluster removal on my 91 300D seemed really tight,is there enough slack in the speedometer cable to get it far enough out to unscrew the cable and lube?
At 177 k miles it's probably a little dry.
Thanks, rebel86,

There is an S bend in the cable below the dash before it penetrates the floor in a 124. Enough slack to pull the cluster out enough to reach in and undo the cable.

ATF is a good cable lube. Dribble down the cable sheath.

Removal of the cable is not difficult, the hardest part is to push the rubber grommet on the firewall out and then get it back in. You can remove the cluster and then put penetrating oil in through the cluster hole. My experience is that you need to replace the cable.

I purchased an aftermarket cable made by Febi. If I had to do it again, I would buy the MB OEM part.

I just did this on my 124, when I unscrewed the connector there was a lot of dried grey crud in there and the back of the cluster which I assume was lube/grease at some point. I cleaned it out and used a little silicone spray. Works fine now.
