Update on "87 190E to 190D conversion

I am finalizing my conv. of a 1987 190E w/ a 1984 190D 2.2 dsl eng. Update on the parts I was seeking. I found a Gates water pump and replacement belt tensioner assy. w/bearing from "********" all shipped for around $55. Parts look excellent and bolt right up. Hopefully I can get this engine fired up this week. I have the exaust hooked up, need to connect coolant lines etc. and will be ready to start engine. Can anyone direct me to a current source for a vacuum system diagram for a 1984 190D and 87 190E, W201 vacuum system? I'm in desperate need of one, also I may be missing a vacuum modulator(?) for this to work. The item I'm refering to in the pic below is located just to the right of the coolant resivoir cap, this is what I don't have anywhere on my car. The 2nd pic is of a 190D that does not have this item as shown in the 1st pic. It may be mounted somewhere else on other models but I don't believe there is anything like this on my 87 190E? My engine setup looks identical to the 1st pic, what do I need??? Thanks

My 88 190D 2.5 has the item in question. It has something to do with the HVAC. Mine had a bunch of lines cracked going into it, when I fixed it my heat controls started working again.

Good progress

My 2.2D does not have that vacuum thing, like the picture you have of a 601. I loaned my 190D to a friend so can't take a pic to share with you.

The large plastic vacuum line should come off the pump and go to the brake servo booster, and there is a tap for the normal sized lines to go to the ignition, HVAC under the dash, and maybe more.

Here's a link to the 201 FSM online from MBUSA. There are vacuum diagrams in there somewhere:

Where are you located?

I'm very impressed with your work. My 190D is a terminal rust bucket, and I've thought how great it would be to put the 601 & 5 speed into a 93 chassis

Looks like an EGR transducer which the reference document says is for California only -

Is there an EGR valve on the exhaust manifold?

I am located in central Oh, near Mansfield. My car does not have any EGR on the exhaust, now that you mention the EGR stuff, those pics maybe from cars in California or some place like that. I will look at my brake booster as I do have the main vacuum line going in. I need to see if there are other places to connect lines to the booster. Thanks for the input. So far this has not been a bad conv. except for being very unfamiliar with Benz dsls. I do alot with Isuzu 2.2's and drive a S10 factory dsl.

2peej, my 2.5 5cyl does have EGR, however I am in central ohio as well, if you'd like you're more than welcome to come have a look at my car for reference if that would help you.

I have a friend with a wrecked 2.2 but it was hit hard in the front, it may or may not be of any use to you in terms of reference (no, none of the parts are for sale lol)

Well after some delays, had to order and wait on a few items to finalize the conversion, I'm down to brass tacks. I only get a couple hrs. aday to work on this project so it is taking a while to get there. I am in need of some expert advise. #1. I would desparately like to incorporate the original glow circuit into my conv. I hope someone can walk me thru this final stage. I'm posting pics of my 84 cars relay unit which I mounted inplace of the ignition module on the drv. sd. fender. I show the wire coming out of the glw. relay box and need to know where to tie into my 87 elec. sys. The large red on the right side of the pic is the main pwr. feed to the unit, the green goes to a temp sensor in the head, I don't know where or what the red w/blk wire is. Help! Also in the upper middle of the pics is the wires I believe go to the ignition sw, where and what are they for. How do I wire them into the sys.? #2. The second pic is of the IP, there are 2 shiny blk. hoses running I believe from the oil filter to a unit of some kind that has 2 what look like barb hose fittings. One is shown just above the eng. mnt. the other is to the left of the philips head screw (not below it ). Help!!!!!
