Wow !!!

You know you've done well when the guys working the front desk at the local PnP say you got a good deal and then say:

"This is what irritates me. Aren't we suppose to be pulling all Aluminum wheels?" Of course, I then have to tell them they are ALLOY wheels, not Aluminum, which the desk guy says...you are right, but we sell them as "non steel" at $19 each, plus $12 for any tire that might be on the wheel.

So......for $31 x 4 plus sales tax, I got out the door with 4 really nice bundts (no curb rash at all) with really good thread on the tires. The oldest tire was a 2001, newest was 2004, but the best part, probably less than 4K miles on them (look almost brand new) and they are 205/70R14 ..... wait for it..... Michelins ! 3 fit in the trunk and one in the backseat after I carefully covered the backseat.

I just went out to give the tires the Penny Tire Tread Test - Firestone Complete Auto Care - Take the Test
and Lincoln's nose is the measurement.

Seating for 4

Hate it when I preview a new message and then close the window thinking its the post; guess I will try again.

Had a GREAT day at 2 of the area junkyards today. And I collected enough change to pay my admission at both. The Pinkamino seats are going to be dyed and used in my Light Ivory Unique Car.

The Blue seats will be for sale alone with the blue mats (with the black foam backing) as soon as I get them clean. I have a road trip planned to Louisville, KY in 4 weeks --- meeting Strelnik who is buying a w123 body from me --- he is traveling toward Detroit, MI, and these seats could ride in the w123 body. Please let me know if you want them. The seats are in pretty good condition.

Looks like petrified money. you sure find some interesting things under some of these seats.

Looks like you got a good haul. you know a 126 seat bottom will fit into a 123 also. use the 2nd gen 126, there is an improvement in the springs.

Is that the PU with the Cummins? if so the seats are riding in style.

I really get tight Jawed when a Post or PM is ready to send and I hit the back button and loose it/

Last month I was answering a long PM, got done and checked it over for spelling before sending it off. started to sign my name and ....Poof....it was gone . have no idea what happened to it or where it went.

I need to hit one of the PNP`s by monday. I have a $20 coupon to use and expires on monday. Have to use the 240, the PU is in Sick Bay. so can`t haul too much.

Yes --- I guess you like how I added 4 more seats. Wait until you see the next pic of the Dakota at work. Let's just say, the Cummins is going to get a work out in about 4 weeks.

Yes, the proverbial 'admission' fee most u-pull yards charge now. If I'm lucky I can find enough to make it back....since quite often the admission fee gets you zilch because they don't have the car you need... Not sure what they charge where you are but in KC and Omaha they charge $2, in Des Moines it's still $1 at the yard that charges...which is good because the import section typically sucks.

Our yards out here on the west coast still charge $2, and the Carson City yard in Nevada was still charging $1 until last year.
With the Tool Kits reward card I pay only once, and can go to any other yard on that day and not get charged a second time.

Sometime last year we started to be hit with an admission tax of 17¢.
But that is tacked on when I have a purchase, not when I pay the $2.

Nice scores!!! I'm going to have to start figuring out which yards around here have Merc's laying in them. I'm sure I'll need to pay a few a visit or two.

You have a PNP in Salt Lake City.

Good finds!

At first I was puzzled at why you would buy the "pinkaminos" but your plans cleared that up. What color and what dye?

Last month on 1/2 off I scored a complete set of palomino leather seats out a early gen2 560sel. So upgraded my Johanna to heated fronts and reclining rear. Word!

Got 2x clk alloys dirt cheap, too. They'll need some elbow grease, but hey, 17/per. Had to leave the third - it was a lost cause.

x2 on the beer money. Where do I send Mr. Anonymous' thank you card

Haven't you seen the "unique" car thread?
1984 300D Light Ivory unique car

Can you say (Henna) Red? If you read the thread link above, you will find a correction about the color. In 1984, it was just Red --- the Henna got dropped a few years earlier. No wonder, I couldn't find that color.

There is a great place in North Ogden right off I-15. Look at this thread here. 5 Complete W124 4Matics at Utah U-Pull-It!

Here is a more recent Google picture with the Mercedes section of the yard.

KC u-pull is that way, pay once and it allows you entry into the three yards they own...for that day.

A lot of the salvage yards are being quickly acquired by scrap processors so they have a guaranteed flow of steel to process, which makes sense, however, it means that cars stay in the yard for a lot less time than they used to and it also means you buy what you see when you're there, otherwise you risk not being able to find it a month later when you broke something you need.

I was in WNG a couple days ago for a small VW sensor I knew I would likely not be able to find but it was worth a shot. I noticed that of the two MB's they had (W123 & W124) they'd pulled one and sent it off to the shredder. It's too bad too, almost nothing on the E320 had been purchased and all the sheet metal was in good shape too...a shame. Don't get me wrong, there was a lot of damage to the inside....people who pull door cards off to see what speakers are there etc....general destruction, but body wise it was still complete...a shame. I think it was there all of a month maybe.

2nd trip

So....during my 2nd trip this morning to the PullaPart here in Memphis, I found my iPad 2 on the front bumper of the 1982 300D ....right where I left it during my first trip. This is the brand new iPad 2 I just bought on Thursday to replace the one I left in the Kroger shopping cart on July 3rd. I must have too many things on my mind these days. Don't ask.

I must be living right today though to have found it right where I left it.
