W115 metal fuel line diameter?
I need to replace the metal fuel lines. A quick search here didn't yield anything but sizing and part #s for the rubber bits (already replaced).
The local parts store has 1/4" brake tubing in 25' rolls that I was going to use. Will it work or do I need 3/8" or similar?

At first glance I thought that you were replacing the Fuel Injection Hard Lines.
But, after reading 25' of tubing I guess you are replacing the long tubing that runs under the Car. You want something close to the original inside diameter. I do not think 1/4" is it. Anoter option is that some Hardware Stores like OSH sell larger ID Aluminum Tubing. Aluminum is OK with Diesel Fuel and I believe Biofuels. Years ago one of our members was in a hurry and simply bought 25' of Fuel Hose and used Electrical Ties to hold it up under his chassis.

5/16" will do. 1/4" is too small.

The ID of the rubber hoses are 5/16" so you want fuel line with and OD of 5/16". I used aluminum when I installed my Veg oil system. The lines worked great. It's easily bendable so you can basically match the original steel lines. For the ends I just made sure my hoses were pushed nearly 2" over the hard lines since there are no ribs or barbs. Never leaked a drop.

No, your hard lines should be 5/16" OD. The rubber fuel hoses are 5/16" ID.

OK...as corrected above.
5/16" OD fuel line: # PAC-525 Poly Armour from AutoZone runs $22.99 a roll. Being unsure as to exactly how much I need, I ordered two 25' rolls for continuity's sake. Advance Auto Parts said it was discontinued.

I don't know where you are geographically, but I am in San Diego and you can come strip the fuel lines off my w115 240D parts car. Heck if you ply me with a beer and say Ho HO Ho I'll even help you.

my haunted car
I'm dealing with rusted out fuel lines on a 1979 300TD. Are those hard lines 5/16" OD as well?

It should be easy to measure the Tubing where it comes off of the Fender Well
