Value of 82 300d EUro 5 spd

So I like my 300 so much I'm looking at another. How much do you think a clean low mile 82 300d Euro is worth.

A few things don't add up. Owner is saying 160k miles. If it's a euro it would be Kilometers. Would the speedo have been replaced with a US when it was brought over or did they do multi speck speedos for euro delivery cars that had KPH and MPH?

I hope to look at this car this weekend so I'll get an idea of what the body looks like.

Car is blue on blue. (Blue almost looks green) It does not seem like a very popular color.

Thanks in advance

I have two Euro 240D's, both with MPH speedometers that were assumedly installed as part of grey market conversion.

Thanks for the info. So I'm betting mileage is more since the car was used in Europe before it came over. The asking price is 4200. I
ll start with 3200 and move up once I see the car.

with used cara, I start with my minimum of 500, then examine the car for defects. if none are found, I bump the price accordingly.
starting with 3200 is risky. I'd not offer anything until I looked the car over for sure.
I do not believe the 82 was offered with a true 5 forward gears transmission. verify he's not counting Reverse as a 5th gear...

I had a Euro 82 240D, 5 spd a while back, so I would expect they used the same tranny in a 300D, but who knows

I would buy it just for the 5 speed if it had one. It's what I would like to swap into my cd.

Finding out what year it was brought into the country might give you some indication or suspicion of how many kilometers it may have had on it before the speedometer/odometer was changed out. There may also be a paper trail with the car but unlikely.

During the refit for north american markets usually a brand new speedometer head is installed. Occassionaly a used one might be used. Either way the current odometer reading on that car is not valid.

This should be mentioned to the seller when negotiating the price as well. There is not another brand of car in the world that has more apparent odometer discrepancies one way or another.

One way to verify mileage is to look at the history of maintenance records. If the corresponding mileage info that is written on each invoice is chronologically in order from first sold to present, then there's an excellent chance that the mileage is correct. That is how I confirmed the 173K on my '83 300D when I bought it. The previous mechanic was meticulous at recording the mileage at the time of work, and he recorded the change of odometer and the mileage difference on the face of the odometers at the time of the replacement. And there's never anything wrong with trying to negotiate the price down . . . LOL. But in 2005 I paid $2400 for my '83, which had a newly rebuilt tranny (7K miles), a rebuilt front end, however, needed paint, and almost every sensor and relay replaced!!!! Also, I never bought a car without taking it (or having it taken to) to a shop of MY choice, to do a complete inspection, detailing on the invoice everything that was found. This saved me from buying a car that was leaking from EVERY component that the seller tried to mask by washing the car/undercarriage when I came to look at it. It was certainly worth the $50 I was charged . . . saved me thousands of dolars in repairs had I bought the car.

I'm pretty sure the five speed was offered in Europe with any motor.

I say just buy it.

You can always sell it later on for about the same.

VSTech. So you are saying the car would be a 4 speed with R. When I see 5 spd I think 5 forward gears. I'll get clarification. So the Euro models did not get a 5 speed? I would normally just assume that since it was the 80 and most cars came with 5 speed gear boxes.

That's a really high price, but that's a really rare car. Don't forget to go over it for rust. If you are starting with a solid rust free car that has not been seriously wrecked, you can fix most everything else.

To me, this would be a HIGHLY desirable car. Good luck.

No, I'm quite sure the 5 speed was available in Euro cars of the era.

Thats not true. Not even close. I have a 300e with that "super rare 5 speed".

Best offer I got on the trans was about $800 bucks. The whole car $1500.

I paid about $3500 or so for that one. (I tried to put it out of my memory but its close)
