I wonder if I shouldn't be checked out for blood sugar issues myself. Then again in evolutionary terms, we aren't that far removed from a time when explosive rage in the face of adversity wasn't an "emotional handicap" it was a survival instinct.

X3 is it?

Is there a connection between MB drivers and blood sugar level?

Oh I hear you on that. Direct sun makes it happen faster to me.

I had a couple of scary experiences all by myself way in the back of the old rural pickn'pull here, some years ago when I almost collapsed after working for an hour or two on some fresh carcass in July heat. I also have to remember to continually drink water when working (not wait three hours then drink a gallon at a shot).

In the end I became mildly diabetic so now I have no choice: I stop every two to three hours, eat a snack and rest for 20-30 minutes on the couch.

I like old cars. But, because of time, mileage and service history they do require more maintenance than newer cars. I will say that most of the issues that I've had occur were not surprises. They often show some sort of warning signs that I did not act upon before soiling the sheets. My experience with newer cars, on the other hand, is that they just stop working. With computers adjusting engine parameters automatically, you may not know something is happening before that CEL flashes. Hopefully the code it flashes is descriptive enough that you can act upon it.

I have heard stories of cars that only needed periodic payments and fuel to run reliably for 100K+ miles. I've never owned one.

The vehicle I have that has the most mileage is the one that has needed the least amount of maintainence. At 350k miles my diesel truck has only needed the things attached to the motor replaced: alternator, water pump, vacuum pump, fuel pump, injectors and pump, glow plugs and relay, and a tach sensor, none of which seemed to fail early. Fluids, brakes and tires are regular maintenance, and this has been over the last 17 years, so my return on this vehicle pretty good, since I've done all the maintenance myself. The paradigm it creates is the longer it last, the longer I expect all my vehicles to last with relatively low maintenance.

Our Benzes have been fairly easy to maintain. The '79 300D was gone though very meticulously by its PO, and has needed just an alternator (one of the 2 things the PO didn't replace), some a/c work (due entirely to my heavy handed approach charging the system), and a master cylinder (the other thing he didn't replace). He bypassed the climate control, so that, while not as refined as the original, hasn't caused any headaches. The '85 300D has been my teacher, needing all the steering components replaced, the suspension rubber sooner rather that later, and the ubiquitous A/C work, but has been a solid DD for the year and a half that I've had it, ie. it has never left me stranded, and only failed to start when the 7 year old battery I bought it with quit mid-winter. But I like the old car, and these things that make it closer to properly maintained only enhance it in my eyes. I have to say not bad for 32 and 26 year old vehicles.

You might try good old white distilled vinegar. It powers through a lot of stuff and is non-toxic.

Mine does the same. And now she recognizes when I'm crashing and helps instead of yelling back. It's gotten worse in the last year. About 12 years ago I figured out that I cannot eat ANY sugar, or consume anything with sugar in it. Starbucks Frapachino...my favorite...38gms of sugar. CocaCola - 32gms of sugar. No more chocolate, no more donuts...the list goes on and on.

Blood testing has to be done throughout the day, and before and after meals. It's the drop in blood sugar level more so than the actual level, that causes most of the symptoms. At 5:30 in the afternoon my blood sugar level is at or below 50%, just above the level that brings on a coma.

The bad news is that all my favorite things are on the 'do not consume list'. In order of deleterious affect:
  1. sugar
  2. caffiene
  3. nicotine
  4. alcohol
That pretty much shoots my general diet all to hell.

Sorry for the thread-jack. If it can help anyone then it's worth it.

Haven't had that happen in a long time, but when I was younger and didn't know what was up I did pass out once. You know you're in deep trouble when you start to get those sparklies in your peripheral vision.

Well for me it's kinda like cjbrown said...a bit of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde situation. When my blood sugar is low stuff that normally would only mildly annoy me fills me with rage and frustration. Now that I'm aware of it I'm better at recognizing when my reaction to something is all out of proportion and calming myself down.

Thanks. I think the hardest part for me is finding reasonable high-protein snacks to eat between meals at work. Nuts are the obvious thing, but I get tired of them pretty fast.

on a side note. the green/ yellow vaccum line in the door is? door lock? i forget, i thought green was climate control. i found it was ripped, would explain my door locks.

heres a photo of the new hood/ filler on the fender. the color i picked was nice, it is mercedes code 541

also, how do i get tranny fluid/ oil off of paver bricks? anyone have ideas? i tried some trisodiumphosphate but no avail....
If the TSP doesn't work, just pull them out and turn them upside down, oil facing down!!!! One advantage to them being pavers!!!!

Sounds like we need to have a "round-up" or "GTG" or "MBZ Dinosaur Car Clinic in South Florida . . . bring Sleeping bags . . . LOL. Between us all, we can get each other's cars all fixed up in one weekend!!!!

Personally, I have been able to rely on all three of my MBZs, even over the Later Model Buick I had. The MBZ was always forgiving and gave me enough time to replace something, enough so, usually I could budget for the repair as I wanted it done. The rest was maintenance. Broke down few times, and more often from Batteries and tires.

You miss the point.

He claims to use the SD, strictly, and it is sufficiently reliable so that he does not require a second vehicle.

However, he has the availability of at least two additional vehicles in the household (the 420 and the 300e).

Therefore, the argument that the SD can be considered a single vehicle without any backup support is invalid.

Additionally, if someone puts all the family members vehicles in their sig, a casual observer would easily conclude that such vehicles could be utilized in a pinch. Why else would they appear?

Could be that he's the family wrench. He sees those cars enough to be familiar with them even if the family doesn't live together. Listing them adds to his "I know from whence I speak" factor, like how some folks list the cars they used to own. Or it's an ego thing

You better not list all the cars you used to own.

You'd need two pages.................
