B3 adjustment bolt

Apologies for resurrecting this thread, but is it at all possible to remove the B3 bolt with the transmission in situ? I am one of the unlucky ones where the head of the bolt has sheared off.

Can I remove it without the "bullet" spacers you've mentioned falling into the transmission?

[Edit] I can confirm that I have removed the bolt VERY slowly, loosened the nut and screwed it back in again VERY slowly) I probably screwed it in another full turn, tested and I can now burn rubber in 3rd. Actually, I think that in 20 years that I have owned this W123 230E this is the fastest that it had ever engaged reverse after selecting it.

Please explain more what B3 bolt does and its location. #intrigued

B3 Bolt adjustment

The B3 bolt is to adjust the reverse gear slippage, if it is too tight, your transmission would probably engage reverse between gear shifts, if it has too much free play your transmission would not engage reverse.

Hi Mate, currently just replaced a bunch of seals on the exterior of the transmission and having a hard time getting the bellhousing back on. Was there any tricks to this? I believe its getting caught on the hydraulic ring on the shaft that fits inside the bellhousing bearing.
