arm rest cupholder idea

I was rummaging through the pick n pull, saw a few drivers seat mounted arm rests with slide out cup holders. This may solve the "lack of cupholder" issue we all have. Any one ever try to fit one of these to a benz seat?

The rear seat in the W210 sedan has a pull-out tray in the center armrest with two cup holders and the first aid kit. It might be too wide to fit between the front seats of a W124, though. The late-124 armrest that flips open could probably handle a small cup holder; it couldn't be more than 2-1/2 inches deep or the top wouldn't close. You could glue a piece of PVC pipe wide enough to hold your drink cup to the inside of the armrest. The late-124 armrest will fit any 124, AFAIK, although they are a little spendy on eBay but maybe you might get lucky at the junkyard.

You are no doubt aware of the console-like box that Mercedes put in the center tray when they stole the glove box for a passenger air bag. I put one of those in my '87 (they'll fit any W124 if you remove the carpet from the tray and drill a couple of screw holes) and it works fairly well as a cup holder if you leave the lid open.

Then install a late style armrest upside-down without the lid so it fits over your Big Gulp.

Buy bottled drinks and learn to screw the lid on while driving a stick shift... I know it can be done, I do it daily! With an auto it should be cake walk.

I think your missing the point. Some purists would also argue that I shouldn't have a drink in my mercedes anyways. In fact, they might be correct. If Mercedes thought we should be sipping a coffee while we drive they would have installed cupholders. What we should infact all be doing is smoking! They did afterall provide my 300sd with three large ashtrays, illuminated, with electric lighters!!!!

I bought a set of W124 cupholders a while ago on eBay (the kind that mount on the door and fold down) to install in my 240D. After dumping a full Venti iced coffee with cream & sugar in it all over the place yesterday, I decided to finally install the cupholder on the driver's side. It held nicely with double-stick tape but conflicts with operating the clutch. Damn. Back to the drawing board.

I'd love to find something that would sit in the rear part of the center console but haven't found anything yet.

I don't let anyone have open drinks in the car. Bottled water, no coffee.
No food.

It's a Mercedes, not a McDonalds.

I do the plastic bottle thing. If you only close them one-hand tight, then they still don't leak but you can re-open them without too much distraction. I've had SOME success setting drink cups on the transmission selector between "P" and "D" after I shift into gear, but you have to keep a hand on it.

I've set drinks on the console in my 240D but the condensation makes the emergency flasher button BUZZ like the dickens. It's plastic not zebrano.

I usually end up setting my drink in the nook just in front of the seat adjustment on the passenger side. Prop something against it and hope for the best.

I remember not too long ago that one forum member was advertising a custom drink holder that fit into the console area and was made out of aluminum. I cant seem to find the thread, but I would definitely be interested in purchasing one if he is still willing to make them. I simply didnt have the money to spend when I first read the posting!
