If the pistons are good, cost of a rebuild is not to bad.

Current decision is rebuild until I find evidence saying the current motor is unrepairable. Pictures will follow this weekend of me pulling apart said motor

Part 3. This is it for tonight, mosquitoes decided I was delicious, despite this I got a LOT done, almost all the necessary hoses are disconnected, the AC compressor is dropped so I don't have to bleed it and refill the freon down the road.

Engine fluids are bled for less mess later down the road of course

Removing the manifolds today, only one more bolt, but the rain chased me inside.

This is one of the few engines I have actually HAD to remove the manifolds for removal.

Strange as it is there seem to be lots of fairly good used engines still available out there for the 123 diesels. Area dependant to some extent though.

. As already mentioned if it sounds good in the donar car and has really good compression across the board etc. It is not that much of a risk.

Had a guy call yesterday for one with less than 100k real miles on it. Just told him it will be hard to find a true example.

Because of the rust issues lower milage engines are more abundant up here. but 100k is unrealistic unless a factory drop in was involved. I expect a decline in availability of good used engines for these in the not too distant future though. .

There are 3 OM617s in the local junkyard, 1 turbo two non. And a couple 4 cylinder diesels.

I've got plenty of pickings to choose from should the engine be un-salvageable.

Below 100k the engine still hasn't worn in yet, if I am getting an engine, I like it to be 100k or more, and if its got good compression and oil pressure, chances are it will be good for a long time with the proper maintenance
