'98 E300 Intercooler question

http://i450.photobucket.com/albums/qq229/tazmaroonia/IMG_3997.jpg?t=1309627609The attached picture is shows a crack in the drivers side of my intercooler. I have a couple of questions:

1). Do I need to remove the bumper to r&r?
2). I've read a couple of posts that suggested using epoxy to fill the crack may be a fix. Has anyone done this?

Previously, the car was giving me a P0243 code, so I replaced the transducer. The car has not given that code (or any other codes) for awhile now. Last time I tripped it was when I ran the car up to about 85mph. I still have a "rush of air" sound when I accelerate and suspect it is due to this crack in the intercooler. Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Sixto,

Thanks for the link. I've reviewed this previously and I intend to get the cat checked if my cracked intercooler isn't the source of all my issues.

Intercooler

Hi,
If you have a problem fixing your intercooler, Check to see if the C230 kompressor 1999 uses the same intercooler? I have one in my garage doing nothing.

From what I can tell, they aren't the same but I haven't been able to locate the part number to verify. Comparing pictures, however, they look slightly different. Plus, I believe your intercooler is metal versus mine that is plastic. Thanks though.

On second check, the intercooler is metal. The part that busted is plastic. And, the bumper is going to have to come off. I know how I'll be spending my weekend now.

When I replaced the radiator on my car, I thought the IC would have come off through the bottom by simply removing the inlet/outlet and unbolting it from the rad.

I am an over maintenance freak and thought it would be interesting to do a R&R of the intercooler on my '99.

I was able to remove the 2 bolts, I loosen the hose clamps and pull it out from below by pulling the bumper cover out of the way without loosening any of the fasteners. I then flushed it with Simple Green and Brake Cleaner. A NON-FALMMBLE one!!! Remarkable little junk came our so I presumed that there was enough velocity to blow everything right through it. I had visions of a quart of oil in the bottom.
