3k at 70 is certainly not 3rd gear, it must be 4th so all is well.

You're right where your suppose to be at 70mph. Mine's the same, right at the peak of torque output of the OM606.912. The resonance valves in the intake boost torque output ahead of the natural torque peak. (See attachment) 134HP@5000RPM, 155LB/FT@2600--Anemic compared to the 606.960, 648.960 and 613.960

"Skippy," The 95 E300D is a 124.131.

4 speed transmission (722.435)

Regarding your brake issue, through the years my 124s as the pads and rotors wear showed a noticeable change in peddle feel and height. I just did front and rear brakes along with fluid on my 95 and it was a night and day difference in both aforementioned characteristics.

Fluid is a bi-annual must, some even say annual as does the FSM. If the fluid isn't clear in the reservoir, change is necessary. On the most contaminated changes, I've noticed a marked improvement in peddle firmness, but not near as great as post brake renewal.

Stick with OEM mercedes pads and rotors. Normally I'd be shopping at Worldpac,(I have bought OEM Starred (MB) pads and rotor for some of my cars through Worldpac, but it's been hit or miss based on the model.) but for what ever reason, I've tried just about every non-Starred (MB) pad and rotor combo and within a year warped rotors and pulsing abound. I just did my son-in-law's W203 prematurely due to the same problem.
