Sorry I had to pick WD40 - just for fun!

But seriously I use Castrol magnatech when ever I can get a cheap load delivered from Germany.

Rotella 5W40 in the diesel. The gas pot gets Rotella 15W40, which I've been using in all my gassers since 2004.

I just use whatever brand of 15W40 the parts store has on the shelf in gallon jugs. The car's got 240,000 miles on it, it's not going to know the difference.

I don't know where you get your information, but Amsoil makes Group III and group IV synthetics. They only made "real synthetics" from the early '70s until the '90s where some of the lower-grade "synthetic" offerings from other companies caused them to start selling the Group III stuff. Same with Mobil 1, used to all be the good stuff, now they sell both grades for marketing reasons.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Yesterday at Walmart I picked up some Rotella T5 10W30 Synthetic because it went on clearance for $5 a gal vs $19

My car has 217K on it, if the car has run Dino oil all it's life would you think it's ok to run a synthetic or should I stick to the Chevron Delo 400 or Mobil 1 Delovac I've been running?

Should be no problems. I switched to 5W40 synthetic a hair after 300,000 miles. The only differences I noticed were very slightly better fuel economy and my minimal oil consumption went to no oil consumption.

Edit: Oh, and cold weather starting improved slightly. This was more of an issue in my 240D, which had loop glow plugs and was really past due for injectors.

I run tella 15W 40

All the big truck drivers I know run it and they get serious mileage. My benz had 20w 50 for 99K miles but I switched it over to what I have always run. Seems to be working just fine.

Usually Castrol, but I have gone to what was on sale a while back when I loaded up on that Delvac for dirt cheap.

I use Caterpillar diesel oil (15w40) in all our diesels. We get it in 205 ltr drums (60 US Gal).
If its good enough for our most expensive diesel, its good enough for the others.
We dont own any gassers to try it in.
Its cheaper than the alternate as we get so much at a time.
