Looking at an 86 300SDL, the air conditioning does not work. The compressor is good and the system is charged. The unit does not kick on. They're telling me it is a contol unit and they can get a remanufactured one for $125.

Does this sound right?....help! Or are there other things I need to look at....the car has 240,000 miles on it.

If it's that inexpensive and easy a fix, how come the sellers have not taken care of the problem before selling the car?

When purchasing a used Benz, if it does not blow a freezerful of frigid air I assume it's a $2000 problem. I may be a pessimist, but I don't buy other people's problems either. Seriously, I'd ask the seller to either fix it, or borrow the car prior to purchase and have a complete diagnostic performed. Repairing the a/c car cost anything from $100 to $2500 on this car, and you need to know which it is to determine the value of the car.
